Good Friday

                       THE  PASSION  OF  OUR  LORD

This is a day of Universal Fast and Abstinence.
A Day of prayerful silence and penance.

Today we are invited to witness the glory of the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
However, this glory of the Cross comes with the price of his Life: He offers his life in order to give us life. Knowing that the price of sin is death: He dies on our behalf so that we may live. He fulfills and perfects beyond measure the available biblical models of the 'escape goat', and the spotless 'lamb of sacrifice',  offering his life on behalf of others. He Saves us!
We are given to see our Lord Jesus Christ, both Priest and Victim of this Eternal Sacrifice, hear His filial prayer to the Father as he hung upon the Cross and reflect on the words and sounds of His total oblation: surrendering His will in order to conform to the Will of the Father for our salvation.    "It is Finished". (John 19:30). Tetelestai... the debt we owe to God by our sins is paid in full!

The refrain today is 'Behold the wood of the Cross, on which hung the savior of the world,' and we come to worship Him.

On this day, the Cross becomes a tangible symbol with which we interact. We were marked for Christ at the time of our Baptism and we continue to mark ourselves with this sign of our salvation. Each time we make the sign of the Cross, we proclaim our willingness to take up our cross and follow Christ, as he challenged those who wished to be his disciples. Through this Cross we are redeemed and are given the grace of new life in Christ.

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion and death of Christ. The Church invites us to celebrate the  Tre Ore or Three Hours, focusing on the events of the crucifixion and  the (seven) last words of Jesus from the cross.
The Good Friday Liturgy begins without any introduction or salutation and ends without any dismissal.  It is an open ended part of whole Triduum.
