Father's Day

Father’s Day
Being a Catholic dad is both a great privilege and a big responsibility. He with his wife pledge to dedicate themselves together all the days of their lives, to serve God and be open to His plans for a family. God in his infinite wisdom and bountiful love has espoused to them the loving charge of His children, entrusting to their care to raise them up, to know, to love and to serve God and our neighbor.  They in turn promise to nourish and cherish them and so prepare them in His providence for lives as Catholic men and women.
The joy of the Lord is your strength (Nehemiah 8:10)
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path (Psalm 1119:105)
Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation,
in charity, in spirit, in faith  in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12)

This Father’s Day, becomes a day of renewal of our precious vocation as Fathers. Therefore, How about if we try to continue doing what we do best:

  • Keep Holy the Lord’s Day and all those other days… (Exodus 20:8): Fatherhood is the ultimate exercise in getting priorities right. Our children are always watching us if we are doing things wrong.. but the good news is that they are also watching us when we do things right!
  • Teach Your Children Faith…(John 20:29): Faith is best learnt by example. It requires a lot of surrender, humility and also exercise of authentic authority.
  • Show them the Father:… (Matthew 6:9-13) Let them know that God is our real Father, and we are all His children. That we as fathers, are only stewards of God’s wonderful creation, and best of all, of His children. Teach them to Trust God in all your endeavors.
  • Make efforts to Forgive and be forgiven…. (Matthew18:21-22): The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a uniquely Catholic ritual: while it teaches us accountability, it also reminds us of God’s bottomless well of forgiveness,….. beginnings of many great lessons to teach our children who learn from this responsibility: It requires us to admit our failures and children watching us learn to ask their forgiveness when they mess up, and know that they can be forgiven.
  • Give and Let Give: (Proverbs 28:27) An old expression says: “When there is a piano to be moved, don’t reach for the stool.” Generosity is a value of great sacrifice. It comes from a noble heart.
  • Play and Have Fun…(Luke 18:16-17) Our life on earth is short and the lease of time with our children from the day they are born till they are big enough to leave home, is brief… and so if we do not Play and have fun now, we may never have another right time to do the same.
  • Get Caught Praying (Luke 11:1) Let our children watch us praying, and find us in prayer, to encourage them to pray with gratitude, thanking God for so many blessings, and directing them to pray over meals, at bedtime, at rising. Praying the Rosary is a pretty intimate act.
  • Let It Shine, Let it Shine, Let it Shine: Matthew 5:14-16) to inspire, evoke, encourage, cultivate, enable and ennoble, the little angels God so lovingly entrusted to your care, so that those talents may bloom and mature for the greater glory of God.

Fathers like you always shine a light
To guide their children and help them do right.

Fathers like you gently lead the way
As they share their faith with their children each day

Fathers like you are honored and cherished, too,
For reflecting God’s love in everything they do!

Happy father’s Day
  • On this Father’s Day, we pray for all Fathers living and deceased. May God Give all our Fathers who are alive, those precious blessings of fidelity, dedication and generosity they need to keep our families together; and those fathers who have died, may they receive their eternal reward in heaven.
  • That we learn to appreciate our Fathers and strive to honor them all the days of our lives (pause) we pray to the Lord.
  • For all Fathers, that they be strong and of good courage, neither afraid nor dismayed with the challenges in life, that they may be faithful to the promises they make, and persevere in their efforts to secure a family and a home of love and  peace,   (pause) we pray to the Lord.
  • For all fathers that they be models and inspiration of fidelity and holiness to their children.. (pause) we pray to the Lord.
A Father’s Prayer
Lord, may I always follow Your example of strong love and patience.
May I remember to pass on to our children, the wisdom You have given us.
Grant me a caring and loving heart like St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus.
Help me to guide my children in the path of goodness and right.
I pray that you would continually bless our families as we set a good example for our children.
